Obligatory instructions – a normative document setting out the employee’s functions, rights and responsibilities. Obligatory instructions are used for the preparation of an employment contract. In addition, this document is used in the event of a conflict between the employee and the employer. Obligatory instructions are normally prepared by the personnel department or the lawyers, then approved by the company or by the order of agency’s head.

Obligatory descriptions have the following parts:


  • General Regulations;
  • The employee’s duties and functions;
  • The employee’s rights;
  • The employee’s responsibility.

General section discusses the employee’s activities, qualification requirements. Indicates what the employee needs to know and what documents to follow, and what regulatory framework to use. The second part examines employee’s activities and specific work to be carried out by an employee. The third part – the rights of employee in the assigned work. Fourth – the employee’s responsibility.
